THE LOW DOWN:
The Ninja Invitational and the Grasshopper Open are designed to get youth kayakers out on the Freestyle features close at hand and to give them the coaching and experience needed to excel on those features and in those environments. Sean Allen and Simon Coward have been the driving force behind the events but this year we have a pretty awesome list of coaches to help make these weekends as memorable and productive as possible.
A quick breakdown: The Ninja Invitational Series includes 3 events over 3 different weekends. In order to participate in the ninja Invitational you must have received an invitation.
Stop number 1 is at the Kananaskis River June 15, 16 and 17.
Stop number 2 is at the Brierlies Rapids on the North Saskatchewan July 20, 21 and 22.
Stop number 3 is in Jasper and the river section will be determined closer to August 17, 18, 19.
The Grasshopper Open will have 2 events that correspond with the first 2 Ninja Invitational events and is open for kayakers aged 12 and up that possess a bomber roll in class II whitewater.
Stop number 1 is at the Kananaskis River June 15, 16 and 17.
Stop number 2 is at the Brierlies Rapids on the North Saskatchewan July 20,21,22
Combining the Grasshoppers and the Ninjas for a session or 2 each weekend is done to give the younger Grasshoppers an idea of just what they are capable of with a little practise. The benefit to our Ninjas will come through the act of mentoring their Grasshopper counterparts. It’s hard to beat teaching a skill as a way to really cement the process into your brain.
Each weekend will cost $185 per kayaker and will include:
Transportation to the event - Camping - Food - Coaching - Supervision and more FUN than anyone should be allowed!
For more specific information please refer to the individual event packages that accompany this brief outline.
Can’t wait to see the progress in our Grasshoppers and Ninjas this Summer.
